Between the silence of concrete and the echo of wood, a new building emerges discreetly on the campus of Universidad de los Andes. The Music Box is a piece that holds more than it reveals—an architecture that seeks not to impose, but to resonate.

Conceived in 2017 through a competition for alumni under 40, the project brought together architects Carolina Jaimes, Juan Esteban López, and Alejandro Puentes—three friends educated at the same university. “We had never worked together before, but it seemed like a great opportunity to do something meaningful,” recalls López. Organized by the School of Architecture and the Department of Music, the competition challenged participants to create a proposal that would both provide specialized spaces for music practice and preserve the urban and landscape balance of a campus with significant heritage value.
